The walkway leads to the house and it goes without saying that keeping it in impeccable shape is essential to make that perfect first impression. A number of things can go wrong with the walkway and since it is the exterior of the house, we might not always notice the little signs of damage or we often tend to overlook them. Here are some tips to help you maintain your walkway:
- It is always better to prevent than to cure and to prevent any future damages, it is mandatory to see that the installation and paving is impeccably done. Paving stones used for walkways are often not installed in the manner they should be and problems start arising soon after. Try not to compromise on quality while installing the paving stones.
- Keeping the walkway clean at all times is absolutely essential. This includes the prevention of growth of weeds, clearing away stone chips that dig into the paving stones or asphalt and even dry leaves, which, if allowed to accumulate will rot and stick to the paving stones and coupled with dirt and water, will make a mess that you will find difficult to remove.
- Fill any cracks or crevices on the walkway as soon as you see them. Seal the gaps between the paving stones at regular intervals so that they do not become loose. Cracks need to be filled in before they become deeper and the deeper the cracks, the greater the chances of damage caused by accumulated rain water or snow. Water seepage can weaken the very foundation of your walkway.
- It is a given that you would want a beautiful walkway, but try not to install stones that have too many intricate patterns as dirt tends to stick to them faster. Opt for simple designs with neat lines.
